Pharmacovigilance

Pharmacovigilance - a process connected with identification, collection, evaluation, examination and prevention adverse reactions and any other issues related to the safety and efficacy of medicinal products.

The main purpose of pharmacovigilance:

  • prevention of harm to people caused by adverse reactions arising as a result of use of medicinal products in accordance with instruction for medical use or not, or as a result of occupational exposure;
  • contributing to safe and effective use of medicinal products, including by the provision of timely information about safety of medicinal products to patients, employees with medical and pharmaceutical education, and population.

Therefore, pharmacovigilance means the activities contributing to health of patients and population.

Main objects of observation of the pharmacovigilance system are adverse reactions and cases of lack of efficacy of medicinal products at their medical use.
